Maven is an adolescent raven determined to find a keystone species of woodpecker believed to be extinct. In his mind, locating an Imperial woodpecker will restore order to the region and reunite his family after an attack by neighboring owls forces him to flee his home. He escapes injury and certain death with the help of a foreign macaw named Perce, who claims to know the location of the last Imperial.
